A crocheted baby blanket does not just look gorgeous. It is a real practical accessory and can be easily implemented by crochet beginners with some patience. This tutorial shows a baby blanket crocheted in a distinctive pink pattern. The pattern repeats in each row and is therefore easy to rework.

Which wool is suitable for crocheting a baby blanket?

As always, when a crochet project is required for babies or toddlers, the value of wool plays a major role. Yarns or wool made of pure synthetic fibers may be robust and durable. But they are not very good for a baby blanket. The baby blanket must be able to withstand a bit and in case of emergency she should also have a machine wash. In addition, one must of course not disregard that the baby wants to feel really comfortable with his blankie.

Merino / New Wool : Wool from sheep is a pure natural product and therefore theoretically well suited for the baby blanket. The specialist trade offers good, soft qualities that even withstand wool washing in the machine. Unfortunately, there are more and more small earthlings who have to deal with allergies. In this case, avoid using a high-quality synthetic fiber or blended fabric with cotton.

What wool size is recommended for the baby blanket?

Apart from the amount of work you want to invest, there are a few more needle size criteria.

Needle size 2 - 3: From the end result light and with a corresponding pattern even filigree, in the workload but not without - suitable for persevering crooks and crochers

Needle size 3.5 - 4: goes a little faster from the needle - an ideal strength for light, cuddly blankets

Needle size 4.5 - 5: a bit more stable and thicker - suitable for warmer ceilings

Instructions for crocheting a baby blanket

You need:

The baby blanket in this guide is crocheted from a cotton blend.

• Consumption for a blanket approx. 60 x 90 cm: 8 balls + 1 additional ball for the border

1st row

Beginning of row (half pattern set in front): Crochet 3 transitional meshes as a replacement for the first stick, crochet 7 sticks in the second to eighth stitch of the initial chainstack chain, crochet one net of air

Crochet 1 Air Stitch, crochet 7 rods into the next 7 Stitches of the initial Stitch Chain, crochet two Stitches and crochet 7 Sts into 7 Stitches from the initial Stitch Chain, crochet 1 Stitch

This pattern set is repeatedly crocheted within a row until only the last 8 stitches remain. It follows the end of the series

End of row (half pattern set at the back): Crochet 1 piece of air, crochet 8 sticks into the next 8 stitches of the initial chain stitch chain, the 7th and 8th sticks are mopped together.

2nd row

Beginning of rows: Crochet 3 transitional meshes as replacement for the first stick, crochet 7 sticks into the second to eighth stick of the previous row, crochet a chopsticks around the air stitch of the previous row, crochet an airlock.

Pattern set : Crochet 1 piece of air, crochet 7 sticks into the next 7 sticks of the previous row, pass two sticks and crochet 7 sticks in 7 sticks of the previous row, crochet 1 air stitch.

This pattern set is repeatedly crocheted within a row until only the last 8 stitches remain. It follows the end of the series.

End of row: Crochet 1 piece of air, crochet 1 stick around the air stitch of the previous row, crochet 7 sticks into the next 7 sticks of the previous row, the 6th and 7th sticks are mashed together.

This 2nd row is repeated both on the front and on the back.

Crochet baby blanket 60 cm x 90 cm

Cast on a chain stitch with 128 stitches + 3 spiral stitches.

Now in back and forth rows each zigzag pattern work as follows:

1 x half pattern set front - 7 x pattern set - 1 x half pattern set at the back

After about 81 rows, the ceiling has reached the desired height of 90 cm. Now cut the thread and pass the last loop of the row through the three stitches on the needle.

Crochet blanket

Start at one corner, pull through a loop and crochet three loops of air. Crochet two sticks around each edge stitch in the next crochet sequence on the long side of the blanket and crochet three sticks around the three transition stitches of the pip pattern.

At the corners each work 5 sticks. On the top and bottom of the blanket, crochet one stick at a time into the interstices of the pattern sequence. Crochet two sticks around the spokes of the spike pattern. Finish this round with a slit stitch and crochet a second round with tight stitches. Crochet a transitional mesh as a substitute for the first fixed loop and then crochet a single crochet into each of the preliminary round. Finish the job with a final slit stitch.

Here is the quick guide for a striped baby blanket with 3 colors. Chopsticks and solid mesh are used. If you only want to work with a mesh, you can always work with fixed stitches, half-sticks or chopsticks.
